November/December 2022 Philanthropy Update

Financial gifts support bloodmobiles that collect blood for patients like Quincy (left) who received multiple blood and platelet transfusions during treatment for leukemia and in preparation for a blood marrow transplant from his brother Reece (right).

Greetings from San Diego Blood Bank!

In advance of the Thanksgiving holiday, I want to express my sincere thanks to all our dedicated financial donors. Your support allows us to further our lifesaving mission in the community. As a valued partner to San Diego Blood Bank, your gifts support our lifesaving blood services and groundbreaking research, and most importantly, give the gift of life. For that, we are extremely thankful.

We are raising funds for a new bloodmobile, and I am thrilled to share that San Diego Self Storage and Managing Partner, Anthony R. Carr, are matching all Campaign for Life gifts up to $75,000 through December 31! Bloodmobiles are relied upon daily to collect a robust blood supply to support the health needs of the community. Your important gift toward a new bloodmobile will be doubled, thus helping us to reach our $380,000 goal sooner! Please consider making a gift towards this match opportunity today.

Together, we are making a difference in the lives of patients like Quincy (featured above) who rely on blood to survive. Your continued support of our mission is deeply gratifying to us, and we hope it is the same for you.

Please enjoy this philanthropy update. For information about Campaign for Life, contact me at cclector@sdbb.org or 619.400.8214.

Warmest wishes to you and your family this Thanksgiving!

Many thanks,

Campaign for life

Help fund a New Bloodmobile and Your Gift will Be Matched!

We invite you to partner with San Diego Blood Bank by making an investment in community health through a new bloodmobile.

Our urgent need this year is a new bloodmobile that will replace an aging vehicle in our fleet. The Campaign for Life goal is to raise $380,000 for a bloodmobile that will impact thousands of lives over its 15-year lifespan. Thanks to generous gifts from the Cushman Foundation, the County of San Diego Board of Supervisors, and individual donors, we have raised over $90,000 toward our goal.

In partnership with the community, SDBB hosts more than 1,700 mobile blood drives each year, collecting approximately 50% of our annual blood supply.

You can make a difference in the lives of family members, neighbors, friends, and colleagues by helping to ensure blood is on hospital shelves every day to save lives.

Thanks to San Diego Self Storage and
Anthony R. Carr, Managing Partner, all gifts through December 31st in support of our new bloodmobile will be matched up to $75,000. That means that your contribution will be DOUBLED.

For corporate partnership opportunities and other ways to give, please contact Cherryl Castro-Lector, Director of Development at (619) 400-8214 or cclector@sdbb.org.

November 29, 2022

Please remember San Diego Blood Bank when you participate in Giving Tuesday this year. All Giving Tuesday gifts will help fund a new bloodmobile and will be matched, dollar-for-dollar up to $75,000, thanks to San Diego Self Storage and Anthony R. Carr, Managing Partner.

Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Since then, it has grown into a year-round global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. Every act of generosity counts, and everyone has something to contribute toward building the better world we all want to live in.

2021/2022 Impact Report

We are pleased to share San Diego Blood Bank’s 2021/2022 Impact Report that highlights the impact of our blood collection and research services. Your support of our mission makes it possible for us to save lives and advance health in our community, and we are grateful for your partnership as a financial donor.

In addition to expanding our Blood Collection Program with two new donor sites, over the past year we launched new programs to reward blood donors and to collaborate with community partners on a larger scale to inspire people to donate blood. We also invested in innovative blood genotyping technology to more closely match blood types to help prevent complications in blood recipients.

SDBB’s mission remains steadfast, and we appreciate your investment in helping ensure patients suffering from illness, injury or a life-threatening condition or disease receive lifesaving blood.

If you have any questions or would like more information about the impact of your support, please contact Cherryl Castro-Lector at 619-400-8214 or cclector@sandiegobloodbank.org.

Tree of Life campaign

San Diego Blood Bank partners with Tree San Diego to offer unique opportunity to new blood donors

SDBB has launched a double-impact Tree of Life campaign aimed at recruiting brand new volunteer blood donors during the season of giving.

Starting November 1, 2022, new blood donors who register at check-in with SDBB group code: "TREE" will save lives through blood donation and help the environment thrive thanks to SDBB’s partnership with Tree San Diego and Forestmatic to sponsor tree planting initiatives here in San Diego and in Uganda.

This special offering is limited to the first 2,500 donors who qualify, with a potential impact of planting 5,000 trees.

The season of giving is the perfect time to plant the seeds of change and start a lifesaving tradition of donating blood. The more people in our community that we can inspire to become blood donors for the Tree of Life campaign, the greater impact we can have on sustaining community health and environmental wellness.

New blood donors can participate in our Tree of Life campaign by doing these two things:

  1. Donate blood with San Diego Blood Bank for the first-time during November 2022.

  2. Register with group code: "TREE."

When you donate blood as a “first-timer” with SDBB and register with the code: TREE, you are investing in life “TREE-fold” as we like to say. Together we can save local hospital patients, help communities in Uganda, and sponsor tree planting initiatives, maintenance, and care for up to 2,500 trees in San Diego County.
